The Valley City Hi-Liner boys golf team continued its strong spring surge Monday, defending its home course and winning the Valley City Invite at Bjornson Park Golf Course with a commanding team score of 334 β finishing 18 strokes ahead of runner-up New Rockford-Sheyenne.
Hosted at Bjornson Park Golf Course thanks to the support of Valley City Parks & Recreation, the windy conditions created challenges for every team in the field, but the young Hi-Liners once again proved they are becoming one of the top Class B programs in Region 3.
From Coach Murray:
βWindy day for all, but the young Hi-Liners came out on top with a team score of 334, 18 strokes in front of runner-up New Rockford-Sheyenne.β
Leading the charge was eighth grader Beck Dietrich, who continued his impressive late-season run by earning individual medalist honors with a round of 78. Dietrich caught fire on the back nine, carding four birdies over his final nine holes and finishing with five birdies overall on the day.
βBeck Dietrich continued his great play the last few weeks and came out as the individual medalist with a 78,β said Coach Murray. βHis round included 5 birdies, with 4 of those coming on the back 9.β
Valley City also placed two more golfers inside the top seven individually. Freshman Austin Anderson rebounded into the top five with an 83, including a strong 39 on the back nine to finish tied for fifth overall. Eighth grader Kallen Hansen added another consistent performance with an 85, good for seventh place.

The Hi-Liners have quietly put together one of the strongest stretches of golf in recent years for the program. After multiple tournament victories and several top finishes over the past few weeks, Valley City now heads into postseason play carrying momentum and confidence.
This was the final regular season invite before Region 3 competition begins Wednesday in Carrington. Based on their recent performances, the Hi-Liners appear poised to contend near the top of the regional leaderboard.
For a team built heavily around underclassmen, the ceiling continues to rise every week.
