Hi-Liners Golf Battle Wind, Take Second at Loboe Invite
Cool, windy spring golf has become a familiar theme this season, and Tuesday at Memorial Park Golf Course in Grand Rapids was no different.
But once again, Valley City handled the conditions well.
The Hi-Liners placed second at the Loboe Invitational, finishing with a team score of 344, just two strokes behind an experienced Sargent County squad that won the meet with a 342. Sargent County leaned on veteran leadership, placing three senior golfers inside the top eight.
Valley City countered with youth and depth.
The Hi-Liners placed three golfers in the top nine and had all six varsity golfers finish inside the top 15, another strong sign of how steady this young group has become late in the season.
Kallen Hansen led Valley City with an 80, good for fourth place overall. Austin Anderson followed with an 87, tying for sixth and officially placing seventh by tiebreaker. Gray Kasowski added an 88, finishing ninth.
Behind them, Gavin Wiebe shot an 89 to take 12th, while Brody Kalbrener and Beck Dietrich each carded a 90, finishing inside the top 15.
For a team built heavily around underclassmen, Tuesday was another reminder that Valley City’s ceiling is high — not just in the future, but right now.
The Hi-Liners now turn their attention to the NDHSAA Super Regional on Tuesday, May 26, at Jamestown Country Club. Teams from Regions 3 and 4 will compete, with the top four teams advancing to the state tournament, along with the top 20 individuals not on qualifying teams.
The state golf meet is scheduled for June 2–3 in Carrington.
