Valley City Hi-Liners Names Chase Carpenter Head Boys Basketball Coach
Chase Carpenter - new VCHS Basketball Coach
Valley City Public Schools officially announced Friday the hiring of former Hi-Liner standout Chase Carpenter as the next head boys basketball coach at Valley City High School.
A 2013 graduate of Valley City High School, Carpenter returns to his alma mater after building an impressive resume both as a player and coach. During his playing days for the Hi-Liners, Carpenter earned All-State honors in 2013 and joined the school’s prestigious 1,000-point club before continuing his athletic career at Valley City State University.
At VCSU, Carpenter competed in both basketball and baseball from 2013–2018 under Viking head basketball coach Ryan Montgomery while earning a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education with a minor in Coaching.
Carpenter now returns home with seven years of coaching experience, including successful work at Maple River, where he helped build a competitive and respected program. Beyond basketball, Carpenter has remained heavily involved in the local sports community as the Valley City Legion baseball head coach during the summer.
“Coming back to Valley City High School, a place that played such an important role in my life, is incredibly meaningful,” Carpenter said in a school press release. “I’m honored and excited to have the opportunity to lead the boys basketball program at my alma mater. Valley City has a proud tradition, and I look forward to building meaningful relationships with our student-athletes, school, and community. My goal is to build a program centered on hard work, accountability, toughness, and pride in representing Valley City.”
Activities Director Rob Hunt expressed excitement about bringing a former Hi-Liner back to lead the program.
“We are thrilled to bring Chase back to Valley City,” Hunt said. “There is something special about having a former Hi-Liner return to coach. He understands what this program and community mean, and we are excited for the energy and direction he will bring.”
Carpenter’s return signals a new era for Hi-Liner basketball, one built around community ties, passion for the game, and a coach who understands firsthand what it means to represent Valley City. Those close to the program know Carpenter brings a relentless passion for basketball, strong player relationships, and a competitive edge that should resonate well with current and future Hi-Liners.
A team meeting for current players is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27 at 7:00 p.m. in the HAC lobby.
