Valley City Competes Among Region’s Best at West Fargo Packers Relay

The Valley City Hi-Liners stepped into one of the toughest meets of the season Friday at the West Fargo Packers Relay, going head-to-head with some of the top programs in the region. Against deep, competitive fields across all events, the Hi-Liners showed they can hold their own.

On the girls side, Valley City finished 8th overall in a loaded 16-team field, scoring 34 points. West Fargo, Moorhead, and Davies led the way, but the Hi-Liners found success in key events and continued to build consistency across the lineup. Morgan Larson delivered a strong day on the track, placing 6th in both the 100 meters (12.93) and 200 meters (26.69) , while Brynn Lueck turned in one of the top performances of the meet for Valley City with a 3rd-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles (47.91) .

The girls relay teams also made their presence felt. The 4x100 relay team placed 6th (50.51), and the 4x200 squad added a 4th-place finish (1:47.98) , showing speed and depth across multiple legs. In the field events, Layni Bakalar stood out with a 3rd-place finish in the long jump (17’5”) and followed it up with a 7th-place mark in the triple jump —a high-level performance in a stacked field.

On the boys side, Valley City competed in a meet dominated by Moorhead, Davies, and Fargo South, with strong individual efforts highlighting the day. Derek Shape led the way in the sprints, finishing 5th in the 100 meters (11.34) and an impressive 4th in the 200 meters (23.01) , proving he can compete with the region’s top speed.

The Hi-Liners also showed strength in the field events. Andon Bulow delivered one of the top performances of the day with a 2nd-place finish in the javelin (160’8”) , while Owen Hunt added a pair of strong throws with a 6th-place finish in both the shot put and discus . The boys relay teams were competitive as well, with the 4x100 relay placing 6th (45.60) and the 4x200 finishing 6th (1:34.82) .

This meet wasn’t about easy wins—it was about competing against depth, speed, and experience across the board. And that’s where Valley City took a step forward. Multiple athletes placed in the top tiers of their events, relay teams were competitive, and the Hi-Liners showed they belong in meets of this caliber.

As the season continues, the focus now shifts to building on these performances—tightening relays, shaving times, and turning strong finishes into podium spots. The foundation is there. Now it’s about stacking results.
