VC Softball Untimely Errors vs Kindred

Kindred 6, Valley City 1

Valley City generated early momentum and created scoring opportunities throughout the afternoon, but defensive miscues and timely hitting from Kindred proved to be the difference in a 6–1 loss.

The Hi-Liners struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing to take a 1–0 lead on a wild throw.

Kindred answered in the third, stringing together three hits and taking advantage of a Valley City error at first base, the Vikings plated two runs that inning and took the lead for good.

From there, Charlie Odegaard did just enough to manage the game for the Vikings. The Hi-Liners recorded 5 hits and put runners on base in multiple innings, but were unable to deliver a key hit to shift momentum.

Kindred extended its lead in the fourth with two outs, capitalizing again on a defensive miscue to bring home another run. They added to it in the fifth following a wild pitch and throwing error, continuing to take advantage of extra opportunities.

In the circle, Hi-Liners Delaney Everhart battled through difficult middle innings as defensive errors extended frames and forced her to work out of tough situations. Kindred made the most of those chances with timely hitting to build separation.

Valley City’s best opportunity came in the fifth, when Haley Lueck doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch, but the Hi-Liners were unable to bring her home.

Defensively, Bethani Schuldheisz delivered a highlight play in the sixth inning, making a diving catch down the 3rd base line on a popped-up bunt to stop the Viking momentum in inning and prevent further damage.

Kindred added one more run in the seventh on a bunt play, while Valley City was unable to generate a late rally in the bottom of the 7th.

Despite early momentum and multiple opportunities, the Hi-Liners were unable to capitalize, while Kindred consistently took advantage of extra chances to secure the win.

The Hi-Liners (5-3 Season, 4-2 Region 1) look to bounce back against Maple River on Thursday in Hope.
