Hi-Liner Baseball falls to LLM
4/29/26
Valley City competed early and showed offensive fight throughout, but one inning proved to be the difference in a 14–5 loss to LaMoure/Litchville-Marion. The Hi-Liners were right in the game through the first few innings, matching energy and creating opportunities, before an eight-run fourth inning shifted momentum and created a gap that was difficult to overcome.
That fourth inning told the story. LaMoure/Litchville-Marion strung together timely hits, drew walks, and capitalized on defensive miscues to extend the frame. What could have been a manageable inning quickly snowballed, as extra outs and free baserunners turned into multiple runs. Against a team that consistently puts the ball in play, those situations add up fast.
To their credit, Valley City didn’t back down. The Hi-Liners answered with runs in the fifth and sixth innings, putting together quality at-bats and forcing pressure back onto LaMoure/Litchville-Marion. Chase Coghlan led the way with two hits, while the lineup showed depth in creating baserunners and extending innings. Valley City was able to generate offense, but couldn’t quite string together the timely hits needed to fully close the gap.
On the mound, Valley City pitchers battled through tough circumstances, especially in the middle innings where defensive errors extended at-bats and created difficult situations to navigate. LaMoure/Litchville-Marion took advantage with timely hitting, adding insurance runs late to maintain control. It wasn’t a lack of effort—it was a matter of execution in key moments.
The takeaway is simple: Valley City showed they can compete, but cleaning up one inning changes the entire feel of this game. With Region III still tightly contested, the Hi-Liners remain in the mix as they look to build consistency moving forward.
