Hi-Liner Golf Claims Team Title at South Border Classic

The Valley City Hi-Liner golf team battled through tough conditions Saturday at the South Border Classic—and still walked away on top.

On what Coach Murray described as the windiest (but warmest) day of the season, the Hi-Liners proved their depth and consistency, capturing the team title with a round of 343, well ahead of second-place Ellendale (380).

Even more telling than the team score? Valley City placed all four scoring golfers inside the top 10, a benchmark that typically separates contenders from everyone else.

Leading the way were a pair of eighth graders who didn’t just compete—they set the pace. Kallen Hansen and Gray Kasowski each fired rounds of 79, tying for medalist honors and showing maturity well beyond their years. In difficult scoring conditions, both stayed steady across their rounds, each carding identical 40-39 splits.

The depth continued behind them. Beck Dietrich added a 92, good for a tie for 6th, while Austin Anderson rounded out the scoring with a 93, placing 8th overall. That kind of balance—no drop-off across your lineup—is why Valley City controlled the field.

This wasn’t a full roster effort, either. With several players unavailable due to other commitments, the Hi-Liners leaned on a smaller group—and delivered anyway. That matters. It tells you this isn’t just a good lineup… it’s a resilient one.

Valley City now turns its attention to its next meet on Tuesday, May 5th at Napoleon Country Club, where the standard is now clear: compete, control, and close.
