Senior Day success for Hi-Liners Baseball

Hi-Liners Roll Past Larimore 14-4 on Senior Day

Valley City made sure Senior Day ended the right way Monday night, pulling away for a 14-4 win over Larimore in six innings behind a complete offensive performance and a strong first varsity start on the mound for Cole Bullinger.

Before first pitch, the Hi-Liners honored seniors Corbyn Powell, Matthew Holm, and Jack Samuelson—and it didn’t take long for that group to make an impact. After Larimore struck first in the top of the opening inning, Valley City answered immediately. Powell sparked things with a leadoff knock, and Samuelson followed with a triple to tie it. The Hi-Liners would go on to plate four runs in the first, setting the tone early.

Larimore battled back to make it a one-run game after two innings, but that’s where Valley City started to separate. The Hi-Liners capitalized on mistakes and stayed aggressive on the bases, pushing across runs in the third and then breaking things open with a five-run fifth inning. The approach was consistent all night—pressure, pressure, pressure—and Larimore never recovered.

Powell led the charge offensively, finishing just a home run shy of the cycle and consistently setting the table. Samuelson was just as dangerous, racking up multiple triples and driving in runs in key moments, including another triple in the sixth to help close things out. Contributions came throughout the lineup, with Valley City stacking 13 hits and taking advantage of Larimore miscues.

On the mound, Cole Bullinger made his first varsity start and delivered exactly what you want from a young arm—poise and competitive innings. After giving up some early runs, he settled in and controlled the middle frames, allowing the offense to build separation. The Hi-Liners finished the job from there to secure the run-rule victory.

It wasn’t perfect baseball and it was cold outside, but it was winning baseball—timely hitting, aggressive baserunning, and enough pitching to control the game. On a day meant to recognize their seniors, Valley City got exactly what they wanted: contributions from their leaders and a decisive win.
